This Instruction Manual was produced by Plimpton for their basic range of BAYKO sets - sets #0 to #3, and was the bread and butter of BAYKO's heydays, with a total of 20 issues being printed. |
It is print coded January, 1957, and designated as being the “18th issue”. The printer's code also tells us that 100,000 copies were printed. |
This manual overlaps with the sets #0 to #4 manual, which was also printed in January, 1957. |
The manual was printed by J.H. Leeman Ltd., Leighton Printing Works, Neston, Wirral. It has a full colour cover, the rest of the 40 pages are printed in red, green and black on white, gloss paper. |
This one I just don't understand at all. For some reason - for this issue only - the title of the “Double Storey House”, which is the right hand model on page 16, is printed in green ink. I am not aware of this having happened elsewhere, and it was 'corrected' in the next issue. |
There is a rather unexpected change on Page 21 [below], considering how long the original version survived unchanged. The model includes two Large Windows and two Long Bricks, with a floating 2-Brick Rod, over the porch. For some reason, Plimpton decided to add the instruction - “The 2 Brick Rod between the large windows over the porch can be secured in position with a small rubber band.” - so now you know! |
Page 33 [below] contains an ongoing anomaly. The list of new parts included in sets #3X and #4 continues to omit the Dome and both the Pinnacle Roof and Platform, despite the fact that these were certainly included following the launch of set #4 early in 1952. |
Size - 250mm x 185mm = 9.8 x 7.3 inches. 18th Issue. Number of this version that were printed - 100,000. |
