In 1948 Plimpton introduced set #3 to extend the range of BAYKO sets that were available. Initially they added a set #3 manual to support the launch, and this manual was issued shortly afterwards, around mid 1948, to consolidate details of all the standard sets with examples of the usage of the new parts, hoping, no doubt, to prise the pocket money from young post-war modellers! |
The manual incorporated the entire earlier 6 page leaflet, which first announced these new parts. |
There is no print code, so the exact date of this manual is unknown - at least by me - but it is definitely the earlier version. |
The manual has a full colour front cover printed on white paper, the rest of the 40 pages are printed in red, green and black on decent quality, matt, off-white paper. |
The first 6 pages, identified by roman numerals, contain general information… |
…and the last 6 pages are a straight copy of the earlier, 6 page leaflet. |
This is one of the first six pages, so the above comment also applies. In addition there is a small change in the script below the right hand table. The legend here reads “LARGER RODS CAN BE SUPPLIED TO ORDER”, whereas the later edition refers to “LONGER RODS”. |
The 5 images below, highlighted in pink, are the other 5 pages which are different in the 2 manual versions. |
Size - 250mm x 185mm = 9.8 x 7.3 inches. |
