Reproduction BAYKO Rods - Cut-to-Order

Rods aren't particularly sexy BAYKO parts, but they're essential…
…and sometimes you just can't get hold of a Rod that is long enough for a particular model.
During BAYKO's life time, both Plimpton and MECCANO offered a “made-to-measure” service - well “Cut-to-Order” anyway.
After a mere forty four year gap, I now offer a “Cut-to-Length” or “Cut-to-Order” support service to fellow BAYKO modellers.
I've found a source of CORRECT GUAGE replica Rods [1.905 mm = original 75 thou]. The “Cut-to-Order” Rods I offer are cut from these.
The price structure is simple and is laid out in the table below. Please note, you can ask for lengths in terms of Bricks, inches or millimetres - if doing your own calculation, don't forget to add 3/8 inch [10mm] to allow for the bit that goes into the base and the bit that sticks out at the top!

Important. If you're planning to use particularly long Rods, supported, at regular intervals, by BAYKO Floors - don't forget to include an extra allowance to accommodate these! Remember, pre-war Floors are significantly thicker than their post-war counterparts! If you want rods of an unusual length, please use the length in inches or millimetres as your guide, cost will be based on the size bands below : -

Important reminder - these Rods are the CORRECT GUAGE!

Postage, packing and insurance is entirely dependant on the number and length of the Rods that you order, and, of course, where you live. I'm happy to ship to anywhere in the world and have already sent several orders to Africa, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand - oh yes, and Europe!
This next point isn't just a clever way of increasing sales - I wish - but shipping costs can be pricey when compared to the purchase price, so, in terms of the gross cost per rod, it's worth planning ahead, and effectively combining the postage, e.g., doubling the size of most orders adds little or nothing to the total postage costs, particularly where long Rods are concerned.

CALCULATION HINT
Required height in Bricks
-
0.75 inches [¾ inch] x the number of Bricks
Allowance for the bit fitted into the Base and 'spare' at the top
-
0.375 inches [⅜ inch] - the standard used throughout
Allowance for Pre-War Floors
-
0.03125 inches [1/32 inch] x the number of Floors
Allowance for Post-War Floors
-
0.015625 inches [1/64 inch] x the number of Floors
Then add 'em up!
The reason I've used imperial measurements is not that I have a 'Little Englander', anti metric mentality, it's simply that all the above dimensions were originally manufactured in inches, so that has to be the most accurate way to calculate the total length - no cumulative translation errors!
Remember - to paraphrase the Carpenter's Maxim - Calculate Twice - Cut Once!
